Description

Description

The Ride in Kane project coordinates dial-a-ride services in Kane County into a centralized system that optimizes transportation resources for older adults and persons with disabilities.  The sponsors of this project include multiple private non-profit organizations and local units of government.  The award includes funding to support 1.5 positions at the County to lead mobility management efforts for Ride in Kane.

Description

The RTA assisted the Village of University Park to update its TOD plan that was completed in 2002 for the University Park Metra station. The revised study included an analysis of surrounding land uses and zoning codes, local road safety improvements and a last mile mobility strategy.

Current Activities

The University Park TOD Plan was completed and adopted by the Village Board in February 2023. The final report can be found under Related Reports.

Description

This RTA assisted the Village of Cary in the creation of the Downtown Cary Strategic Plan, a transit-oriented development plan for the area generally located within a half mile of the Cary Metra station. Particular attention was given to properties located within the first quarter mile of the station and the plan details a vision for downtown with a focus on future land use and infrastructure improvements that will help to strengthen the inner core of the community and encourage private reinvestment near the station.

The Downtown Cary Strategic Plan was adopted by the Cary Village Board on June 15, 2021. The RTA will monitor for initial plan implementation.

Description

The RTA assisted the Chicago Department of Transportation in identifying access to transit and mobility improvements along 31st Street from Sacramento Avenue to the city limits, particularly for non-auto users (pedestrians, transit riders, and bicyclists). This work included collecting and aggregating data of travel trends and traveler demographics in the study area and assisting with community outreach to obtain consensus on plan recommendations. The final plan includes block-by-block improvements that can be made to improve the environment for people walking, biking and using transit, thereby improving walkability and safety.

Current Activities

Work on the project began in May of 2021 and was completed in April of 2023. CDOT is now working to identify funding sources and a strategy to implement the plan recommendations. The RTA will continue to monitor for implementation activity. The plan can be found under Related Reports.

Description

The RTA partnered with the City of Crystal Lake to create a transit-oriented development plan for the areas surrounding the Crystal Lake and Pingree Road Metra stations. The project created a development strategy for increasing the density in these areas with the goals to strengthen pedestrian walkability and to expand mixed use and transit supportive land uses for increased travel efficiency.

Current Activities

The plan was adopted by Crystal Lake City Council on September 7, 2021. The RTA will monitor for implementation activity.

In 2022 construction commenced to build a new multi-family development at the southwest corner of E. Crystal Lake Avenue and S. Main Street. The community will include 48 apartments and 51 townhouses just a short walk from the Crystal Lake Metra rail station.

Description

The RTA and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) partnered together with Elevated Chicago, a collaboration of 17 public, private and nonprofit organizations, to develop two implementation action plans, one in the Washington Park area surrounding the Garfield CTA Green Line station and the other near the Logan Square Blue Line station. The assistance focused on CTA station access, traffic and circulation, community safety, equity, placemaking, economic development and beautification. Public outreach was conducted to generate public interest and engage partners to identify implementable actions.

Current Activities

Work in Washington Park was completed in 2022 and work in Logan Square was completed in 2023. The Economic Development Action Guide (under Related Reports) was developed for the residents of Washington Park to use as a strategy for advancing their goals for future development and redevelopment in the neighborhood. The final report for Logan Square is also found under Related Reports.

Description

The RTA partnered with the Village of Itasca to update their Downtown Strategic Action Plan aimed at strengthening the downtown business environment surrounding the Itasca Metra station, guiding development and redevelopment, building on the Village's unique assets in the downtown area including historic buildings, parks and open space, and enhancing opportunities for transit oriented-development.

Current Activities

The Plan was completed and adopted by the Itasca Village Board in March 2022, and can be found under "Related Reports". The RTA will continue to monitor for implementation activity.
