Description

The RTA is in the process of executing a contract with the TMA of Lake-Cook to assist with the development and implementation of additional Shuttle Bugs throughout the region. Once potential routes are identified and developed in conjunction with the Service Boards, ICE funding will be combined with private sector financial contributions to fund the operation of the routes.

Funding:
2008 ICE: $636
2010 ICE: $254,606
2012 ICE: $944,758

Current Activities

The RTA Board approved this project at its December 18, 2013 meeting. The RTA, CTA, Metra, Pace, and TMA of Lake-Cook, based on their analysis of the markets for the Shuttle Bug service, are focusing on the Oak Brook, Downers Grove, and Rolling Meadows/Schaumburg areas. Employee surveying is completed in the Golf Road area and ongoing in Oak Brook and Downers Grove. Once the survey data is analyzed, the RTA, TMA of Lake Cook, CTA, Metra, and Pace will make a determination on where to pursue specific shuttle bug opportunities.

Description

This project will support the CTA's effort to implement a new technology that will upgrade paging at all 145 rail stations allowing staff to better communicate with customers. This technology will allow mass notification via the Public Address (PA) system and will display announcements directly to CTA's Train Tracker signs. This sytem meets ADA guidelines for providing written words so that hearing impaired riders are able to get information.

Funding:
2012 ICE: $2,493,307

Current Activities

The CTA Midway Orange Line Station was the first station to receive the advance paging system in January 2013. The 40 stations in the related assets section below received the advanced paging system under this program.

Description

This project will support the CTA's effort to install Digital Customer Information Displays and non-digital customer focused information throughout the system. Digital displays provide real time bus tracker and/or train tracker information as appropriate, system status updates and CTA customer alerts. These are interspersed with paid advertisements, time and weather information. The paid advertisements support the operation of the displays and provide a source of revenue to CTA.

Funding:
2010 ICE: $1,080,000
2012 ICE: $920,000

Current Activities

Installation of the information displays began in October 2013. Installation is complete.

Description

The Rail Traffic Controller (RTC) program simulates train traffic over a rail network using a highly sophisticated dispatching system. Currently, all Class 1 railroads use the RTC program to eliminate unnecessary delays and improve the fluidity over their systems. The program will allow Metra to perform the same analysis and improve our scheduling process as compared to our current practices. The improved process will directly impact the overall customer experience by creating schedules that effectively take advantage of all aspects of Metra's rail network. RTC will also be used to help identify possible capital investments, aid in identifying areas of operation to maximize the use of the system, and enhance the overall customer experience.
