Description

This project will support the CTA's effort to implement a new technology that will upgrade paging at all 145 rail stations allowing staff to better communicate with customers. This technology will allow mass notification via the Public Address (PA) system and will display announcements directly to CTA's Train Tracker signs. This sytem meets ADA guidelines for providing written words so that hearing impaired riders are able to get information. Funding: 2012 ICE: $2,493,307

Current Activities

The CTA Midway Orange Line Station was the first station to receive the advance paging system in January 2013. The 40 stations in the related assets section below received the advanced paging system under this program.

Description

This funding will provide for several software and hardware enhancements, which will improve efficiency to the Transit Operations Planning system (TOPS). TOPS is a CTA enterprise system that will automate and integrate CTA's business processes related to Bus and Rail operations and Maintenance. This will eliminate the 27 year-old DOS-based systems (FAST) into a single centralized application. In addition, upgrades are required for the Materials Management Information System (MMIS), which is CTA's work order system that tracks warranty information among other fleet details. MMIS has 14 interfaces connecting to Oracle Inventory, Purchasing, and Human Resources, as well as Bus Emergency Communication Systems and the Service Request tool program. The current software, version 6.13, is beyond its expected service life and needs to be upgraded to version 13. Also, the current Oracle ERP system used for Financial, Human Resources and Payroll management among 17 other modules requires critical upgrading. This system is currently on version 11.5.10.2, which will not be supported by Oracle past December 2015. CTA needs to upgrade these Oracle systems in 2015 to avoid significant disruptions to CTA business. Funding: ICE 2012: $906,693 ICE 2015: $5,703,200

Description

Provide for the update of the Origin-Destination (OD) model working with the Planning and Ridership departments. CTA has been using the OD model for route planning and service allocation since 2008 to minimize crowding on buses and trains. Re-engineering the model will enable it to read and analyze data from Ventra. Implement a system wide Origin-Destination Passenger Survey - last done in FY 2007. Funding: 2016 ICE: $500,000

Description

Furnish and install a Network and Telephone Systems Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery system. This project will provide funding to meet control center requirements: a) Deploy Alternate Control Center: The alternate control center should include full functionality similar to the current primary CTA control center. The resources needed to perform the specified functions should be defined, documented, and included in the plan for the alternate control center. b) Information Technology Applications Required for Disaster Recovery: Assess current applications technology stack, address any required upgrades prior to implementing Disaster Recovery solutions, and propose alternative technology solutions for required field technology components (i.e. RF communications infrastructure cannot be duplicated).
