Description

The Rail Traffic Controller (RTC) program simulates train traffic over a rail network using a highly sophisticated dispatching system. Currently, all Class 1 railroads use the RTC program to eliminate unnecessary delays and improve the fluidity over their systems. The program will allow Metra to perform the same analysis and improve our scheduling process as compared to our current practices. The improved process will directly impact the overall customer experience by creating schedules that effectively take advantage of all aspects of Metra's rail network. RTC will also be used to help identify possible capital investments, aid in identifying areas of operation to maximize the use of the system, and enhance the overall customer experience. Funding: 2011 ICE: $40,472

Current Activities

Metra has purchased software for this project. Delivery and installation of the software was completed.

Description

This project will support the CTA's effort to install Digital Customer Information Displays and non-digital customer focused information throughout the system. Digital displays provide real time bus tracker and/or train tracker information as appropriate, system status updates and CTA customer alerts. These are interspersed with paid advertisements, time and weather information. The paid advertisements support the operation of the displays and provide a source of revenue to CTA. Funding: 2010 ICE: $1,080,000 2012 ICE: $920,000

Current Activities

Installation of the information displays began in October 2013. Installation is complete.
