Description

Improvements complementing new CMAQ funded Oakton Street station on the CTA Yellow Line. Improvements include: bus stops, bus, and taxi access lanes, sheltered waiting areas, pedestrian walkways, shared vehicle lanes, kiss and ride, bicycle parking, and landscape improvements.

Current Activities

The Oakton Street Station opened in April 2012. The village completed the the Kiss'n'Ride with two bus turnouts, and a sidewalk funded by the ICE grant. The final phase of the project consisting of streetscaping and landscaping was completed in September 2013. Oakton Station served 23,225 passengers in November 2013.

In 2015, Skokie received CMAQ program funding, via the RTA's Access to Transit Improvement Program, for additional bicycle parking at the Oakton Station.

Description

This project will deploy scheduling software in combination with a Global Positioning System (GPS) allowing for better trip coordination of Rich Township's dial-a-ride services.

Current Activities

Rich Township completed the installation of scheduling software and hardware. The full system with the Global Positioning System (GPS) component of the project was deployed on April 2, 2011.

Description

The RTA is in the process of executing a contract with the TMA of Lake-Cook to assist with the development and implementation of additional Shuttle Bugs throughout the region. Once potential routes are identified and developed in conjunction with the Service Boards, ICE funding will be combined with private sector financial contributions to fund the operation of the routes.

Current Activities

The RTA Board approved this project at its December 18, 2013 meeting. The RTA, CTA, Metra, Pace, and TMA of Lake-Cook, based on their analysis of the markets for the Shuttle Bug service, are focusing on the Oak Brook, Downers Grove, and Rolling Meadows/Schaumburg areas. Employee surveying is completed in the Golf Road area and ongoing in Oak Brook and Downers Grove. Once the survey data is analyzed, the RTA, TMA of Lake Cook, CTA, Metra, and Pace will make a determination on where to pursue specific shuttle bug opportunities.

Description

The RTA Planning and Market Development Department recently re-oriented its activities to focus on key markets, including but not limited to reverse commute, older adults, and occasional riders. ICE funding will be directed toward key initiatives to be identified in the Department's 2014 work plan. Funding: 2012 ICE: $1,000,000

Current Activities

Following RTA Board adoption of ICE funding in December 2013, the RTA, CTA, Pace, and Metra developed four Market Development projects. 1) The RTA will reserve $500,000 in ICE funds to help support the engineering and implementation of real time signage in support of the CDOT Central Loop BRT project. These funds could be used for real time signage directing customers from Union Station or Ogilvie Transportation Center to bus boarding locations along the planned BRT corridors (Washington, Madison, Clinton, and Canal) or at any of the eight proposed BRT stations in the loop. 2) The RTA is currently working to establish a Special Events Service Fund for use by the Service Boards to serve the occasional riders market. A total of $275,000 in ICE funds ($550,000 total) would be available for services, marketing, and other associated costs for service to/from Special Events within the region. The Service Boards would provide a 50% local match for each service. 3) $125,000 in ICE funds will be provided for a two-year service demonstration of a reverse commute bus service to augment MD-N Metra service. The new ¿MD-N Sunrise Express¿ bus service would pick up passengers at Western and at Chicago Union Station (the two strongest Shuttle Bug ridership stations in the Chicago market segment) and then operate express via the Edens Expressway to Lake Cook Road. The bus would arrive at the Lake Cook Road station in time to continue its currently scheduled Shuttle Bug trip. Passengers would either stay on the bus or transfer to another Shuttle Bug route to complete their trip. 4) The RTA defines Mobility Management as the practice of educating customers on the availability of regional transportation options and assisting customers in choosing the option(s) that best meet their travel needs. Two projects are proposed; a Train-the-Trainer Video Series and an Older Adults Group Transit Travel Program. ICE funds in the amount of $100,000 will be used as a local match for an RTA-sponsored Section 5310 application ($400,000 Federal for a total project cost of $500,000). If the 5310 application is not awarded through the required competitive project selection process, the RTA would scale back the overall project cost appropriately.

Description

When Pace entered into the agreement with CTA and Cubic to develop and install the Ventra System for Pace it was determined that a significant portion of the development costs for Pace participation would be amortized over the 10 year life of the project. This cost known as the "base component fee" amounts to $100,360 per month for the 10 year period. ICE Funding will be used to pay the monthly base component fee for the first two years of project inclusion in the ICE program as they will support the development of innovative new technologies that enhance the customer experience while improving the coordination of services between the service boards. Description

Funding represents Pace's share of the project being undertaken jointly with CTA, Metra and Cubic to develop a mobile application. This project covers cost for development and will allow customers to manage their Ventra Accounts, purchase Ventra fare products, receive account alerts and information as well as gain scheduling and trip planning information.
