The RTA is responsible for ensuring that the Service Boards are spending capital funds and managing their capital projects effectively and efficiently.  The RTA conducts periodic project reviews with Service Board project managers to ensure that capital projects are being implemented according to scope, on schedule, within budget and according to established project management guidelines.

Each project listed below is being actively monitored by RTA’s PMO team. Reporting data is provided that includes, Project Start Date, Project End Date, Budget Status, Schedule Status and Current Activities. These projects are also part of the overall Regional Capital Program which can be viewed separately here.

PMO also produces semi-annual reports that cover all projects that are being monitored. These reports can be found on the Project Management Oversight site.  The latest report is the June 2023 Project Management Oversight report

PROJECT DETAILS

Description:

This project will fund the rehabilitation of the 111th Street / Pullman Station on the Metra Electric District Line in Chicago. The project elements may include the replacement and/or rehabilitation of
station platforms, new lighting, gatehouse/head house rehabilitation, replacement of leaking roofs, installation of new warming shelters, new platform amenities, and other related work. The project may
also include wayfinding signage or other station identifiers.

Current Status

The design for this station is 40% complete. The design is currently on hold until the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review process is complete. Coordination with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is required as part of the NEPA process since the station is located in a historic district.

+ Metra 147th St. - Sibley Station Stations & Passenger Facilities Rail $0 $0 Behind Schedule

PROJECT DETAILS

Description:

This project consists of the complete rehabilitation of the 147th St. (Sibley Blvd.) station facility in Harvey along with the Metra Electric (ME) Line in Harvey. The project scope includes renovation of the station entrance, heated warming shelters, a canopy over half of the platform. Additional project elements include, but may not be limited to, lighting, sidewalk, bike facilities, landscape enhancements, and other related work.

Current Status

Construction activities are ongoing at the station. The contractor is working on preparations for the elevator installation by forming and placing rebars at the headhouse and elevator walls. Forming, rebar placing, and electrical conduit work is ongoing at the ground level station entrance walls. Contractor is also working on assembling and installing north and south platform and canopy structural steel. Procurement of major equipment such as transformers and platform panels has been completed.

+ Metra 16th St. Interlocker Electrical, Signal & Communications Rail $3,090,000 $17,500,000 On Schedule

PROJECT DETAILS

Description:

This project will replace the 16th Street interlocking with a modern solid-state automated electronic system at a junction with tracks owned by Canadian National (CN) near 16th Street in Chicago. The 16th Street interlocking plant consists of an obsolete manual interlocking with two outdated hand lever machines built in 1901 and 1929. There are no manufacturers of spare or replacement equipment for these machines.

Current Status

The preliminary design was completed, and CN is waiting on drawings. Bid package documents were developed and design proposals were submitted. The award for the interlocking track and signal upgrades were awarded in October 2022 and activities for signal upgrades design continue.

Current Status

Activities continued on this project with Pace submitting an order for 10-15 shelters. Shelters are expected to be delivered in Q3-2023. The general contractor for concrete pads continued by applying for additional permits as well installation of pads during this reporting period.

Description:

Production of new electric signs and associated installation costs to provide real-time bus information to riders. In 2021, ten will be replacements for Pulse Milwaukee Line vertical markers, while an additional ten will be for new locations.

Description:

Funding will be targeted at preventive maintenance projects at various CTA facilities systemwide. Current Status

Facilities improvements is part of an ongoing program. The preventive maintenance reduces the occurrences of defects which occur as a result of water/snow, human error, leaks, asset wear and tear, and bearing failures. + CTA 2020 - Rail Car Maintenance Rolling Stock Rail $0 $0 Behind Schedule

PROJECT DETAILS

Description:

CTA will continue investing in the rail car fleet maintenance program. This program is intended to correct critical defects and operational deficiencies discovered during inspections of rail cars. CTA’s scheduled maintenance program consists of planned work to maintain rail car performance. While major overhaul work is performed on a quarterly and mid-life cycle basis, additional focused maintenance work is required at certain intervals of the car’s life, outside of the overhaul cycle.

+ CTA 2021 - Bus Maintenance Rolling Stock Bus $0 $0 On Schedule

PROJECT DETAILS

Description:

Funding for this project will provide for an ongoing capital maintenance program that consists of tasks necessary to keep buses in service through systematic inspection, detection, and prevention of incipient failure. CTA’s scheduled maintenance program consists of planned preventive maintenance work to maintain bus performance. While major overhaul work is performed on a mid-life cycle basis, additional focused maintenance work is required at certain intervals, outside of the mid-life overhaul, during the life of buses.
