Description
Through this study, the Village developed transit-oriented development plans for two locations along the Metra North Central Line: Deerfield Parkway at Commerce Court and Route 22 at Prairie. This study produced transit-oriented development plans for two Metra stations on the North Central Line in the Village of Buffalo Grove: Buffalo Grove and Prairie View. Current Activities
The study was completed in January 2007. The Village surveyed area employers within the station area in summer of 2010 to identify any needed revisions to Pace Bus Route #626, which serves the station. Upgrades were made to the route shortly after. Funding Amounts by Source

Description
Buffalo Grove was chosen as part of the 2011 RTA Community Planning Program of Projects to create zoning guidelines for both the Buffalo Grove and Prairie View station areas to encourage transit-supportive development.
Current Activities
Updated regulations & design guidelines for both station areas were completed in August 2012. The RTA continues to track development progress in both station areas and to offer implementation assistance when appropriate.

Project DetailsDescription
This project was sponsored by the Southwest Conference of Mayors and resulted in a plan to improve traffic movement and transit options along Harlem Avenue from 63rd Street to I-80, making Harlem Avenue a more vibrant and active corridor in the southwest suburbs. Current Activities
The Southwest Conference of Mayors hosted a Developers Summit on September 2013 to discuss the recommendations of the Harlem Avenue Corridor Plan with potential developers. In September of 2020 demolition commenced of a long-vacant trucking terminal at 10301 S. Harlem Ave. in Chicago Ridge. The 75-acre property originally owned by Yellow Freight property lies within a 105-acre TIF zone stretching along Harlem, the largest tract of land available for development in the Village. In 2021 the Village of Worth was awarded Invest in Cook funding for a 0.8-mile long new sidewalk and multi-use path north of the Cal-Sag Channel between Harlem Avenue and Metra’s SouthWest Service Station in Palos Heights. The project will help connect Pace bus routes, retail corridors, recreational facilities, and community destinations as well as tie the Cal-Sag Trail to commuter rail service, which were recommendations of the plan. Description
This project developed strategies to increase transit usage along Cicero Avenue from Midway Airport in Chicago south to I-294 in Alsip. The study addressed mobility and accessibility through a comprehensive transportation and transit analysis, recommended strategies for economic revitalization along the corridor and developed a detailed implementation plan. Current Activities
New TOD area zoning regulations were unanimously adopted by the Village Board on October 20, 2014 and the new regulations will be posted as soon as minor revisions are made.

Project DetailsDescription
This project assessed the feasibility of transit-oriented development in the vicinity of the Metra Milwaukee West Line station in downtown Franklin Park. The goal of the project was to foster improvements to the area served by the Metra Station in order to attract and retain businesses, increase potential tax revenues to the Village, and increase transit ridership by enhancing pedestrian, bus and auto access to the station. This project was completed in February 2006.
Current Activities
RTA worked with the Village to convene a ULI Developer Discussion Panel to solicit guidance and advice on ways to attract TOD investment in the study area. A panel of development experts met with Village staff and elected officials in July 2012 to discuss potential redevelopment opportunities at the vacant LaSalle Bank site located on Minneapolis & 25th Avenues as well as vacant land next to The Crossings condominium development. A summary of this discussion can be found below in the Study Documents.
In 2014 the completed updates to their downtown zoning code, in partnership with the RTA, to better facilitate TOD development and the Village also pursued a Quiet Zone in the TOD area in partnership with the Village of River Grove. In 2020 the Village approved the sale of a downtown parcel at 9600 Franklin Avenue to make way for the construction of a 6-story, 110-unit, market rate luxury rental housing development with ground floor retail. Project DetailsDescription
The RTA coordinated with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) to bring in a panel of development experts to provide guidance and advice on ways the community can attract TOD investment in their Metra station area.
Current Activities
This panel convened in July 2012 and a summary of this discussion can be found below in the Study Documents. The RTA is monitoring progress and will offer assistance with implementation as needed.
