Description

Pace's Regional Call Center takes reservations for dial a ride and demand response services to seniors and individuals with disabilities. The Call Center provides comprehensive mobility management services that improve the coordination and operation of transportation services.

Description

This project completed transit access and land use study with recommended ways to improve transit accessibility while identifying and promoting potential land uses that compliment transit service along the 10 mile stretch of Harlem Avenue, from North Avenue to 71st Street. This project continued the momentum of the previously completed Southwest Conference of Mayors sponsored Harlem Avenue Corridor Project (from 63rd Street to I-80), which has experienced successful implementation efforts. The project area is slated for future Pulse Pulse service, which is an Arterial Rapid Transit service.

Current Activities

The final report was completed in November of 2018 has been shared with Pace and members of the steering committee. Rezoning work is talking place in 2021 and 2022 along the sections of Harlem Ave within Riverside and Berwyn, as recommended in the plan.

Description
Pace will construct up to 150 concrete pads and ancillary connections to accessible paths at Pace bus stops throughout their service area. The pads would be located against a raised curb to facilitate "level boarding" from the pad to the buses bottom stop or provide a landing area for a wheelchair lift. This project is matched with Transportation Development Credits.
Current Activities
Pace, from an initial list of 191 candidate stops, has completed improvements at 65 locations. At the end of March 2013, the last series of improvements were made at: 162nd/Woodlawn, SW, South Holland; Cermak at Boeger, NE, Westchester; Cermak at Boeger, SW, Westchester; Randall Rd at Wilson St, SB, Batavia (shelter installation); Halsted St at 171st St, South Holland (shelter installation); and 159th at Pulaski, NW, Markham. The project is complete.

Description
This planning effort developed Transit Signal Priority (TSP) Signal Timing Strategies and Signal Timing Optimization Plans for the future Milwaukee Arterial Rapid Transit (ART) corridor along Milwaukee Avenue from the Jefferson Park Transit Center in the City of Chicago to Golf Mill Mall in the Village of Niles. It is the first step toward implementing TSP. Signal optimization improves traffic flow for all vehicular traffic, including transit. Improved traffic flow results in reduced stop-and-go traffic, improves platoon progression as well as reduced idle time; which reduces vehicular emissions. TSP improves travel speed and schedule reliability of transit, which, in turns, makes transit a more attractive mobility choice.
Current Activities
The project was completed in August 2011. Pace continues to advance Transit Signal Priority (TSP) and Arterial Rapid Transit (ART) along the corridor. Through an RTA Innovation, Coordination, and Enhancement (ICE) project, Pace will test the integration of transit signal priority technology that will allow CTA and Pace buses to interact with multiple types of traffic signal systems located on the same arterial.

Pace received a CMAQ grant in 2014 to fund the following components of Milwaukee Avenue ART from Jefferson Park to Golf Mill: Phase 1 Engineering, stations, real time information, ART vehicles, and queue jump lanes (where appropriate), which are elements of the Pace TSP Planning for the Milwaukee Avenue Arterial Rapid Transit. Pace held public open houses for its Milwaukee Avenue ART service in 2015 to solicit feedback. Milwaukee Avenue will be the first Pace ART line - now titled Pace Pulse - to be implemented. Construction on shelters and other supporting infrastructure will begin in summer of 2017 with an expected opening of the line in 2018. Description

This project funded technical assistance to Pace to conduct a corridor study of North Avenue between Harlem Avenue and York Road. This study aligned with the goals and objectives of the Pace Vision 20/20 plan as well as addressed regional concerns expressed in the CMAP GOTO 2040 plan. Recommendations include providing improved access to current Pace and CTA bus services, providing improved connections for people walking and biking, transportation and land-used tactics to improve the corridor for future Pace Pulse service, and some redevelopment concepts for two sites with redevelopment opportunity along the corridor.

Current Activities

This study was completed in June 2017 and Pace staff has begun to determine which of the recommendations to consider first for implementation.

In 2019 the Village of Melrose Park acquired and incorporated into it's jurisdiction the former Maywood Race Track, as recommended in the plan. In April 2019, reports confirmed that the 42-acre site will be developed into a three-building, 623,000-square-foot industrial and retail project, that will be called the Chariot Logistics Center.

In June 2019 the Chicago Plan Commission approved the redevelopment of the former Sears site at Harlem Ave, as recommended by the plan. Development plans include a five-story complex with 161 residential units, a grocery store, health club, and 462 parking spaces. At nearby 7141 W. Wabansia Avenue, a new four-story development with 152 units and 177 parking spaces is also planned.

In 2021 the Village of Melrose Park was awarded $566,000 from Cook County as part of the 2021 Invest in Cook grant program awards. The funds will be used to make roadway improvements at the intersection of IL-64 (North Avenue) and George Street. Correcting the offset intersection will improve safety for motorists and other users while also improving traffic circulation along commercial properties. Construction will involve installation of new traffic signals, relocating a shopping center entrance drive, as well as modifying sidewalks, ADA ramps, and a bike path. The 2017 Pace North Avenue Corridor Plan highlighted this intersection as needing modifications to better serve Pace riders, which this project will accomplish. The City of Northlake was also awarded funding for right-of-way for roadway improvements to Railroad Avenue, a major trucking corridor within the City. This project will bring Railroad Avenue up to modern design standards for safety and efficiency and improve the movement of trucks in the area. Improvements include adding a southbound right turn lane to improve capacity at the intersection of IL 64 (North Avenue) and Railroad Avenue, upgrading pedestrian accommodations to current ADA standards, and providing new signalized pedestrian crossings. The new signalized pedestrian crossing will improve access to the Pace 309 route.

RTA staff will continue to monitor for implementation activity of this study.

Description

These reservation based, curb-to-curb services that pick up general public riders within a specified geographic area of approximately 8 square miles and takes them anywhere within that same area. Three Call-n-Rides will operate in the communities of Park Forest (Rich Township), Tinley Park (Orland Township), and Huntley (Grafton Township). The services will allow reverse commuters to be transported to employment areas within the respective service areas as well as providing connections to Metra stations for the traditional commuter market.

Current Activities

The RTA Board approved this project at the November 2012 meeting. As the next step, Pace will submit an application to the Federal Transit Administration. Pace determined other locations were more suited for the service and plans to implement the project in 2014 according to the following schedule:

Description
This project examined Pace Fox Valley service to include an origin-destination study and analysis to identify transit service improvements that will improve efficiency and increase ridership for the Fox Valley service area.
Current Activities
Based on the findings of this project, Pace implemented a services restructuring which was implemented in 2015/2016 in two phases. Five new routes were added: Route 540 Farnsworth Avenue, Route 559 Illinois Rt. 59, Route 722 Ogden Avenue, Southeast Aurora Call-n-Ride, and Naperville-Aurora Call-n-Ride. Major restructuring and/or replacement took place of seven existing routes: Route 524 West Aurora, Route 533 Northeast Aurora, Route 802 Aurora / Geneva, Route 521 East Circulator, Route 528 Aurora - Rush-Copley Medical Center, Route 529 Randall Road - 5th Street, and Route 532 Illinois Avenue. Description
This express bus route was originally implemented as Route 889 to provide low income residents in south Cook County with access to employment centers in the vicinity O-Hare and Schaumburg. In order to improve performance Pace introduced a new service design on November 21, 2011 as Route 895. The service operates peak period, peak direction, express service (NB in morning; SB in midday and evening) between Chicago Ridge & Pace Northwest Transportation Center with selected trips operating via the CTA Blue Line Rosemont Station. The service also includes a distributor segment to serve businesses in the Schaumburg area; the routing for each morning trip will vary/flex based on passenger destinations and the routing for midday and evening trips will follow the route¿s Schaumburg segment.
Current Activities
Pace reintroduced this service with a new service design on November 21, 2011. The service provided 4,368 trips in August 2014.

Description

This project included a transit market and facilities assessment of the I-294 Tri-State corridor from 159th Street Interchange in Markham to the Balmoral Interchange in Rosemont that encompasses a 5-mile radius on either side of the corridor. The assessment identified transit markets along I-294 to inform where future routes and investments in transit infrastructure could be made when the Tri-State is rebuilt, providing incentives for commuters to use public transit.

Current Activities

Preferred service concepts and station concepts were documented in a report pushlished December 2021. The final report can be found under Related Studies. The RTA will monitor for implementation of the report recommendations.
