Description

This project involves developing a vehicle replacement program that includes but is not limited to police cars, police SUVS, and other trucks that are used by the Mechanical Department. The less fuel efficient cars, such as Crown Victoria's and Ford SUVS will be replaced with hybrid models. Operating costs will be reduced by fuel savings.

Description

This project involves providing engineering field staff with electronic data collection devices for reporting incidents and conditions of the system. It will streamline data collection from paper to electronic, providing instant connection to 547. FY 2015 ICE funds will be used for this project.

Description

New integrated solutions will be deployed to support Metra's Transportation Division's operations. Description

This project involves the replacement of DVRs on Metra locomotives, cab cars, and EMUs with a new technology that is faster and less grainy. Inward facing cameras, as required by the Federal FAST Act will also be included.

+ Downtown Station Signs Capital Metra $530,000 In Progress

Project Details

Description

This project will design, purchase, and install new digital train tracking displays and back lit station identification signs. Video boards will display real-time train tracking and service alerts as well as other visual information. At least one sign is planned to be installed at and/or near the primary entrance to Metra's five downtown Chicago terminals. New train tracking displays will improve our communication with the customer and better accommodate ESL and/or non-English speakers and improve ADA compliance. Back lit station identification signs will greet Metra riders as they board and depart the terminal stations.

Description

This project is for the purchase of software that uses train schedules to determine the minimum amount of crews members needed to operate service. This software will be used with the new electronic crew calling system that helps Metra better comply with Passenger Hours of Service (PHOS) regulation for hours of service reporting requirements.

Description

Scope: This project is for a pilot program to guide the installation of Metra's Automated Passenger Count system. Metra will issue a LIQ (Letter of Inquiry) to retain a consultant that has knowledge of the state-of the art technology and data utilization. The project may have two components - one being camera driven and the other infra-red driven.

+ Platform Heating Technology Capital Metra $707,051 In Progress

Project Details

Description

This is s demonstration project for the installation of a heated platform technology for snow removal. This system would be used at stations with precast or composite platforms. It does lend itself to asphalt platforms. FY 2016 ICE funds will be used for this project element.

Current Activities
The platform installation was completed in 2018 at the 123rd Station in Blue Island on the Rock Island District. The heated platform for the Westmont Station on the BNSF line is currently in design.

+ Vehicle Inspection System Capital Metra $1,492,376 Completed

Project Details

Description

This project consists of a Pantograph inspection system and ultrasonic detection system that will allow for the real-time inspection of cars and locomotives. The existing cameras at Randolph Street Station will be replaced with cameras incorporating XTD (Extreme True Definition Imagery) and structured white LED strobe lights will be added at each camera location to provide illumination. These high speed cameras will be strategically-placed so as not to interrupt operations.

+ Revenue Accounting System Capital Metra $1,930,000 Completed

Project Details

Description

This project will install a new back-office revenue accounting system to replace the existing system. The replacements will include servers and related hardware, and software and related programming. The system will be configured to be compatible with the existing point-of-sale terminals throughout the Metra system and the software that operates those terminals.
