+ | Western Springs Downtown Plan | Community Planning | Transit-Oriented Development Plan | Western Springs | $119,980 |
|
Completed | |||||||||
Project DetailsRelated Reports
Description
Called the "Queen Suburb of Chicago" by early realtors, Western Springs is known as a community with lovely homes, great neighborhoods, and a strong sense of community. It also has a wonderful, small downtown with unique restaurants and shops centered on a Metra commuter rail station. To maintain and enhance this unique core of community life, in 2011 the Village crafted a Downtown Redevelopment Plan. The planning process involved an extensive public participation process, including a community survey, participatory workshops, a temporary storefront office for walk-in conversations about downtown, direct interviews and meetings with property owners and developers, and oversight by a steering committee. The intensive process resulted in a Plan that was adopted by the Village Board on August 22 by Ordinance 11-2643 as an amendment to the Village's Comprehensive Plan. Highlights of the plan include a wayfinding system, a renovation strategy for the overall streetscape, identification of nine potential redevelopment sites, creation of design guidelines, façade renovation sketches, implementation strategies, a marketing and promotions strategy, and examination of parking demand and identification of parking improvements. Current Activities
Construction completed in 2020 of Foxford Station, a 28 unit condominium development with 3,800 square feet of ground-floor commercial space at Wolf Road and Burlington, across the street from the Metra station. A developer plans to break ground in the fall of 2022 on a 10-unit condominium development on Hillgrove Ave., between Franklin and Howard Avenues. The RTA will continue to monitor progress and offer assistance as needed. Funding Amounts by Source

|
Completed | |||||||||
Project DetailsRelated Reports
Description
This study examined opportunities to improve mobility in the Route 60 and 22 corridors in Lake County by implementing shuttle bus connections to commuter rail service. The corridors include three Metra rail lines: the North Central Line, the Milwaukee District North Line, and the Union Pacific North Line. The study focused on patterning service after the successful "Shuttle Bug" routes serving Lake-Cook Road and Braeside. The partners included the RTA, the Transportation Management Association of Lake-Cook, Metra, Pace, and major employers from the corridors.
Current Activities
The study was completed in August 2000. Per recommendations in the plan, Lake Forest Shuttle Bug route #625 was implemented along Route 60 in 2001 to connect HSBC employees in Mettawa to the Lake Forest Metra Stations on the UP-N and Milwaukee North lines. Also, Shuttle Bug Route #622/12 was implemented in 2000 to service Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Leica Microsystems in Lake Forest and Bannockburn, respectively, to connect to the Milwaukee North line in Deerfield.

+ | Addison Advantage Transit Improvements | Community Planning | Transit Improvement Plan | Addison | $100,000 |
|
Completed | |||||||||
Project DetailsDescription
This project assisted the Village in identifying, analyzing, and developing a transit improvement plan to encourage, promote, and complement transportation options along Route 20/Lake Street. The study focused on Lake Street from Route 83 on the east to Swift Road on the west, taking into account Pace bus Routes 711 and 715. Redevelopment guidelines that support transit and pedestrians, and a circulation plan recommending ways to accommodate multimodal transportation throughout the corridor were prepared. This project was developed as a continuation of another RTAP Project, the DuPage Mayors and Managers DuPage Community Circulator Prototype Plan, of which the Village was a participant. Current Activities
This project was completed in July 2010. The plan was presented to and accepted by the Village of Addison Village Board on July 6, 2010. The Village is currently exploring funding options to install bus shelters along Lake Street at key Pace bus stops as recommended in the plan. Funding Amounts by Source

Completed | |||||||||
Project DetailsRelated Reports
Not Available Description
The Northwest Corridor, centered on the I-90 Northwest Tollway, includes a substantial share of the region's activity centers and travel destinations, including O'Hare International Airport, the Schaumburg/Woodfield area and the Elk Grove Industrial Park. The Northwest Corridor Transit Feasibility Study identified and compared options for improving mobility, and facilitated a locally-preferred choice for new transit development. Concurrently, the Northwest Municipal Conference-directed RTAP Study developed transit supportive land use policies and identified potential local financing sources. Of the three transit options proposed by CTA, Metra and Pace, local officials representing communities in the Northwest Corridor selected Metra's commuter rail option- the STAR Line.
Current Activities
This project was completed in December 2004. After completing an Alternatives Analysis for the STAR Line in 2012, Metra chose not to continue to pursue the project due to a variety of factors.

Project DetailsRelated Reports
Description
This study, sponsored by the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA), encompassed the communities within the service area of the SSMMA and located along either the Metra Electric Line, Rock Island Line, Southwest Service, or the proposed SouthEast Service Line. This study created station area and developer typologies for each of the stations as well as development and design guidelines.
Current Activities
The final report was adopted by the SSMMA Board in April 2011. Phase II of this study was completed in 2012, focusing on identifying conceptual development programs for five specific sites in three communities within the study area. As a follow-up, the SSMMA received assistance from the RTA (with support from ULI) in 2013 to solicit guidance, advice and input from the development community for four sites within the SSMMA region, one of which is Oak Forest. This discussion took place on December 10, 2013 and a Summary Report of this discussion can be found below under "Related Studies".
