In August, the CTA began installing over 1,300 tactile bus stop signs, with Braille and raised letters, on 12 routes. These signs provide information about the exact bus stop location to customers who are blind or have visual or cognitive disabilities. New signs have already been added to each stop on #20 Madison route. The placards will be added to these 11 routes within the next year:

Description
This project developed recommendations to improve the speed and reliability of service on two CTA bus corridors, a 7.9-mile section of Chicago Avenue and a 10-mile section of 79th Street. Data analysis was conducted to identify slow zones along both corridors and identify solutions to improve the speed of service in those zones. The recommendations include concept designs, and an implementation plan for the CTA and partner agencies.
Current Activities
Final reports for both corridors were completed in the summer of 2018 and are linked below in Study Documents. The City has budgeted funds to make a number of the recommended improvements along the corridors. The first intersection to be reconfigured in 2019 was Chicago/Milwaukee/Ogden, with additional Chicago Ave. corridor work completed in 2019. The City was also awarded Invest in Cook funding from the Cook County Department of transportation to begin building some of the improvements recommended for the 79th Street corridor. In October 2019 Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot announced the City of Chicago will devote $20 million in new funding for the Bus Priority Zone Program designed to improve bus travel times and make service more reliable on seven core routes.

Guides to rail stations and accessible routes for CTA customers who are blind or have a visual impairment will be produced by this project. The guides to CTA's rail stations will be produced in Braille, plain text, and audio files. The plain text and audio files will be available on CTA's website.
Current Activities
The CTA and the Lighthouse for the Blind have agreed on the common description for the stations. The first stations that are under review are on the Pink and Orange Lines.

Current Activities
CTA implemented the service on September 6, 2009. The service provided 175,696 trips in June 2014. Approximately 5,900 of the trips are estimated to be attributable to the service expansion.

Current Activities
CTA implemented the service on September 6, 2009. The service provided 315,015 trips in June 2014 with an estimated 7,200 trips attributable to the expanded service.

his project will install tactile signs at all bus stop poles where CTA public information signs are currently posted to provide information about the exact bus stop location to customers who are blind or have visual or cognitive disabilities. Tactile Signage encourages individuals who currently rely on paratransit services to use fixed-route transit, even for trips where fixed-route service may have been available and at greater service span, frequency, and lower cost to operate than paratransit service. This project will create pedestrian access improvements to Pace bus stops located at Route 137 and Lewis Avenue in North Chicago, at the Lovell Federal Healthcare Center. The project includes new crosswalks, the removal of curbed signal islands and repaving where the curbed islands stand, installation of ADA compliant curbing and sidewalks, a section of retaining wall, a new bus shelter and pad, advanced prismatic pavement markings and signage, and signal modifications to include advanced audible countdown pedestrian heads at all legs of the intersection. Description
This project created a master plan and implementation strategy for the redevelopment of the area surrounding the North Chicago Metra rail station. The redevelopment would include high-density housing, retail and commercial services. The project will also analyze the inter-modal connections between Pace and Metra.
Current Activities
The final plan was adopted by the City Council in January 2008. Currently, the City has been exploring ways to acquire some or all of the excess property in the TOD area owned by Abbott Laboratories, which would allow them to pursue TOD opportunities recommended in the plan.
