Description
This project addressed transit and access improvements to support mixed use development along the Lake Street corridor from 9th Avenue to 25th Avenue. The corridor incorporates the adjacent Metra Union Pacific West Line and Pace bus routes.
Current Activities
The study was completed in January 2007. The RTA is monitoring progress and will offer implementation support as needed.

Project DetailsDescription
This project identified opportunities to enhance commuter access to the Naperville Metra station by evaluating alternative modes of transportation such as bus, bicycle and walking. The project evaluated the feasibility of a bus depot, provided access and circulation improvements, and prepared recommendations to create a safer and more efficient multi-modal environment.
Current Activities
On April 17, 2012 the Naperville City Council accepted the Naperville Metra Station Bus Depot and Commuter Access Feasibility Study Technical Memorandum and directed staff to incorporate improvements into their Capital Improvement Program. On February 19, 2013, the City of Naperville FY14-18 Capital Improvement Program was adopted by the City Council. It contained the following improvements related to this study: modifications to the Eastern Burlington Lot on the north side of the train tracks; modifications to the south side of the train tracks; and conversion of North Avenue (currently one-way westbound) to two-way traffic between Washington Street and Ellsworth Street. Engineering is programmed for FY13-14, with phased construction currently planned for FY15-16 through FY16-17.
In late 2013 the City of Naperville received CMAQ approval for the Washington Street Corridor Centralized Traffic Management System and Washington Street Corridor Adaptive Signal Control projects. These projects install a centralized traffic management system and adaptive signal controls along Washington Street, in the study area of the Naperville Metra Station Bus Depot and Commuter Access Feasibility Study. Description
This project created a transit-oriented development plan for an approximate ½ mile radius of the Geneva Metra Station. The plan recommendations focused on the expansion of retail development, increasing housing diversity, mixed-use development, parking expansion and improving access to and around the station. The final report consists of an existing conditions report, market analysis, concept plan, parking and circulation plan, design guidelines and implementation recommendations.
Current Activities
The plan was formally approved as an amendment to the Geneva Comprehensive Plan in November 2012. In May 2015, the City completed construction of a third tier on the Third Street parking deck, adding an additional 180 spaces.
Geneva continues to build transit supportive infill residential development per the plan recommendations. Two recent developments are noteworthy Campbell Row and Park Place, both completed in 2017. Campbell Row is a 5-unit townhome development at the corner of Campbell and Fourth Streets, 1/3 of a mile from the Geneva Metra station and within two blocks of Pace routes 801 and 802. Park Place is a 30-unit row house development at the corner of First and Stevens within 3/4 mile of the Metra station and Pace bus routes. In addition, in August 2019, approval took place for Phase I of Hamilton Place, which includes the construction of 16 single-family homes at the Northeast corner of Richards & State street. Description
This study developed a plan for a fully integrated sustainable corridor through the development of an express bus service on the I-355 corridor between New Lenox and Lake-Cook Road. It examined ways of improving transit as well as transit support facilities within the entire corridor.
Current Activities
The recommendations presented in this final report are currently being applied to the Pace I-90 Express Bus Network and the Pace Cook-DuPage Transit Investment Plan.

Project DetailsDescription
In late 2009, the Village of Wilmette began a planning process that leveraged the Village's high commuter usage of the rail and bus systems to create a long-range vision for an improved downtown area. This ten-month planning and design process built upon several other studies and engaged some 300 residents in the process. The study process evaluated market feasibility, infrastructure capacity, and most importantly public opinion to create the final plan recommendations. The result of the project created a Master Plan that suggests increased densities, building heights and a mix of acceptable land uses combined with an appropriately regulated urban design and public realm character for defined portions or Target Areas of the Village Center. Additionally, the Master Plan conceptually addresses other areas of the Village Center, most notably the Green Bay Road corridor and future redevelopment which may occur there. The final Wilmette Village Center Master Plan is intended as a basis, or starting point, for any future detailed development planning, design or engineering that will be required leading up to construction and implementation of all or portions of the Plan. It is a guide and as an approved Village tool, it will provide the roadmap for future initiatives, Village leadership goal setting and budgeting and management of the downtown. It is a living document and must be easily and effectively managed and adaptable to changing market conditions. While the time horizon for this Master Plan has been identified as a 10 to 15 year program, it is important that staff and Village leadership update and benchmark the plan on a regular interval. The Village of Wilmette officially adopted the Village Center Master Plan document as an amendment to their comprehensive plan on January 25, 2011. In 2011, a CMAP-led Value Capture study looked at potential funding mechanisms and innovative financing techniques to identify ways for the Village to fund the parking deck recommended in the TOD plan. In November of 2020 the Village of Wilmette gave final approval to a developer to construct a mixed-use building across from the Metra station at 1210 Central Avenue. Description
The Waukegan Intermodal Transit Facility Study recommends connecting the downtown area, which is located on a bluff, with the lakefront and the Metra commuter rail station utilizing transit-oriented development principles. A key component includes provisions for the development of an intermodal facility. The plan also recommends improved pedestrian, vehicular and transit access as part of the new facility. The study was completed in December 2000.
Current Activities
Waukegan completed the Washington Street Commercial Corridor Plan with assistance from CMAP's Local Technical Assistance Program in 2015. The plan identifies opportunities for economic development along a main artery of downtown Waukegan. Funding Amounts by Source

Project DetailsDescription
This project assisted DuPage County in developing options to improve transit connections to major employment centers in the County, with a focus on first and last mile transportation gaps with existing transit services. The ultimate goal of the project was to improve commuting options and access to jobs for those commuting to and within the County.
Current Activities
The final report, completed in the summer of 2017, identifies ways to improve transit connectivity and enhance the reach of the transit network in DuPage County. RTA is monitoring future implementation efforts by the County.

Description
This project created a transit-oriented development plan for a ½ mile radius around the Village's Metra station. The plan examined various underutilized properties and recommend higher density mixed use developments as appropriate. Current Activities
The Village Board adopted the plan in spring 2012 and were directed to pursue six key issues identified by the plan. In 2014 the RTA assisted the Village with one of of these issues, a TOD zoning code update. An overlay district was drafted and the Village Staff continue to work with the Board on revisions acceptable for adoption. In December 2022, the Village was awarded funding through the Invest in Cook program for design engineering of a 1.5 mile-long shared-use sidepath on Shermer Road between Walters Avenue and Willow Road. This project will make bicycle and pedestrian travel safer for residents traveling to downtown Northbrook, the Northbrook Metra Station, and Glenbrook North High School, as well as link to the Skokie Valley Trail to facilitate regional travel. The project implements recommendations from the Plan to establish bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure that connects Willow Road and downtown Northbrook. Funding Amounts by Source

Description
This project developed a comprehensive town center revitalization plan for the Winfield station area located on the Union Pacific West line.
Current Activities
In August 2010, a newly-constructed pedestrian underpass opened to facilitate pedestrian access to both sides of the Metra tracks. Additionally, the Village is currently exploring funding opportunities for a shared parking deck in their TOD area to free up various parcels of land currently used as surface lots, a key recommendation in this study.
In 2019 the Village approved the construction of Winfield Station, the development planned for the former Winfield Fuel & Material Co. site immediately south of the train tracks along Winfield Road. The plans calls for a five-story building that will offer 162 units, including 15 efficiency units, 90 one-bedroom units and 58 two-bedroom units. Construction is anticipated to take place in 2020 with completion in 2021. Funding Amounts by Source
