Description
This project will review and assess alternative organizational and funding structures that can support transportation services for the transportation disadvantaged; the elderly, the low income and the disabled of Lake County.
Current Activities
The County is currently working with planning partners to investigate paratransit opportunities. They recently submitted a CMAQ application to explore bike and pedestrian connections in the SE portion of the County. Additionally, the County recently applied for CMAQ funds (FY2012-2016) to coordinate existing Pace-supported Dial-a-Ride services and demand-response services provided by other human service agencies in the study area. This project also aims to achieve one of the identified goals of the Lake County Strategic Plan, which seeks to support coordination and provide technical assistance to townships in the County with implementing recommendations identified in this study.

In November 2011, the RTA Board approved funding through the Job Access Reverse Commute/New Freedom (JARC/NF) program for continued service providing dial-a-ride transportation in four townships within Lake County to persons with disabilities, the elderly and low-income individuals.

Description
This dial-a-ride service will operate weekdays in Antioch, Avon, Grant, and Lake Villa townships. A portion of the service will be a flexible route connecting three Metra stations on the NCS Line and Milwaukee District - North Line with residential areas to offer greater access to employment opportunities primarily for individuals with limited mobility and other transit dependent populations. The service expanded its boundaries in December 2012 to include Waconda and Fremont Townships. Lake County implemented the service January 11, 2010.
Current Activities
The service provided 881 trips in July 2016. This project is complete.

Description

This project developed strategies to increase transit usage along Cicero Avenue from Midway Airport in Chicago south to I-294 in Alsip. The study addressed mobility and accessibility through a comprehensive transportation and transit analysis, recommended strategies for economic revitalization along the corridor and developed a detailed implementation plan.

Current Activities

The Final Report was completed in December 2014. The Southwest Conference of Mayors approved the plan on March 31, 2015.

Description
This study will create a transit-oriented development plan for the Village that encompasses an approximate ½ mile radius of the location of the future station on the spur of Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line.
Current Activities
The Prairie Grove Village Board adopted the Town Center plan on June 15, 2010. This station is part of the proposed UP-NW Extension plans. According to the 2016 State of the System Report, Metra is pursuing funding for this project from the federal New Starts program. The UP-NW Extension Alternatives Analysis and Environmental Impact Statement phases have been completed. The Village was also included in the 2011 Community Planning Program of projects to update their TOD area zoning regulations in anticipation of new development. These regulations are currently on hold as the property clears the foreclosure process. As soon as the property is clear, the Village will consider adopting these regulations.

Description
The City of Blue Island Transit-Oriented Development study recommended improving the pedestrian environment between the Metra Electric and Rock Island District stations that are located within 500 feet of each other and where significant passenger transferring between the stations occur. The study also recommended providing streetscaping and guidance signage enhancements from the two stations to downtown Blue Island and Saint Francis Hospital, which was renamed to MetroSouth Medical Center in 2008.
Current Activities

The study was completed in May 1999. The RTA recently completed a Phase II Transit Corridor Study which developed conceptual development programs for two parcels in the TOD area; one parcel is an under-utilized parking area Southeast of the Vermont Street Rock Island station and the other is adjacent to the station. Additionally, through an RTA Pilot Project providing implementation technical assistance, a new zoning district called the Uptown Transit-Oriented District was created and formally adopted into the City Zoning Ordinance on June 14, 2012. In 2012 Metra received a grant from the Innovation, Coordination and Enhancement (ICE) Program for improvements to the Blue Island, Vermont Street Interagency Transfer Station. This project includes additional interagency signage at multiple locations, including both Metra stations. Additionally, the RTA chose Blue Island as part of the 2013 Community Planning Program to work with ULI to assemble a developer discussion panel to provide input, guidance and advice to the City as they work to attract TOD investment on a City-owned parcel adjacent to the 119th Street Metra station. This discussion took place on August 12, 2013 and a summary of this discussion can be found in the Related Reports link. The City is currently working to implement the recommendations from this discussion.

Description

This project provides transportation for seniors and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, who are enrolled with Little City, to places of employment, community-based programs, Special Olympics regional competitions, and medical appointments.

Description
The RTA chose Blue Island as part of the 2013 Community Planning Program to work with ULI to assemble a developer discussion panel to provide input, guidance and advice to the City as they work to attract TOD investment on a City-owned parcel adjacent to the 119th Street Metra station.
Current Activities
This panel convened in August 2013 and a summary of this discussion can be found in the Study Documents. In March 2015 the City issued a RFQ seeking a redevelopment partner for approximately 7.5 acres at the southeast corner of 119th Street and Vincennes Road. The site will serve as a gateway to Blue Island and create a commercial or mixed-use node, as identified in the Comprehensive Plan and the City is still working with potential developers to explore public and private funding sources to help finance a development.

Description

The RTA convened a Developer Discussion Panel in Chicago's 45th Ward to gather guidance and advice from development experts. The objective was to attract development to vacant sites and encourage infill development. The Developer Discussion Panelist helped the Ward Alderman and the City determine goals and needs in order to best utilize vacant land along North Milwaukee Avenue near the Jefferson Park Transportation Center.

+ Kane County LRP Transit Component Community Planning Transit Improvement Plan Kane County $119,738

Description
This project, sponsored by Kane County, addressed the transit component of the Kane County Long Range integrated Transportation and Land Use Comprehensive Plan. It also served as an update to the Kane County Transit Opportunity Assessment Study which was completed in October 2002.
Current Activities
The Transit Plan was adopted on June 14, 2011 by the Kane County Board.

The CMAP LTA project, titled Implementation of the Kane County 2040 Long Range Transit Plan- Transit-Supportive Corridors: Existing Conditions and Implementation Tools, was completed in 2015. Additionally, the Kane County Department of Transportation is in the design phase for the CMAQ grant to install bus shelters on the northern portion of Randall Road. Construction will likely occur in 2018.

In late 2013 Kane County DOT received CMAQ approval for the Randall Road Transit Infrastructure Improvements project. This project funds Phase 2 Engineering and Construction for bus shelters, waiting pads, crosswalk markings, pedestrian signals, ADA ramps and sidewalks along Pace Route 801, as recommended in the South Elgin Transit Improvement Plan and Kane County 2040 Long Range Transit Plan CP projects.

Description

Building on previous work conducted by the Village this project created a transit-oriented development plan for an approximate ½ mile radius of the existing Metra station within the Village. The plan focused on improving pedestrian and bicycle safety and access, creating redevelopment opportunities for surrounding properties, and improving the look and signage in downtown. There was a detailed analysis of two areas including the Core Downtown Area and E. St. Charles TIF Area. Specific site recommendations were provided with associated financial analysis and façade ideas. The plan also made recommendation for accommodating parking in the long term and conducting a road diet on Main Street and St. Charles Road east of Main Street. Additionally way finding, signage and branding recommendations were included in the plan. The Village Board officially adopted the plan in March 2011.

Current Activities

In 2021, construction began on the Lilac Station development at 101 South Main Street, a 118-unit mixed-use building with a 11,000 square foot grocery store at ground level. The Village maintains a webpage dedicated to the project that includes detailed construction and permitting updates.
