The Discussion was used by the Village to solicit guidance on ways to proactively attract infill development near the Metra Station as well as along the Downtown Main Street corridor

Description

This project was a corridor study that led to guidelines and recommendations to be incorporated into the Village's Comprehensive Plan update. Obstacles to the Broadway corridor becoming a vibrant transit corridor were addressed in order to create a transit friendly environment that includes improved transit infrastructure, safety and beautification elements.

Current Activities

The study was completed and adopted by the Village Board in October 2015. In 2016 the Village was awarded Federal and RTA funding to contruct pedestrian access improvements along the corridor as recommended in the plan. In 2021 the Village began implementing new wayfinding and parking signage with a new rose motif, also recommended in the plan.

Description

The project improved access to Pace Routes #383 and #386 by providing new sidewalks and infill sidewalks, crosswalks, and pedestrian signal heads. These improvements provide connections to existing sidewalk networks, a recreational center, and residential, commercial, and office land uses.

Description

This project provides new sidewalks, crosswalks, and pedestrian signal heads along a one-and-a-half mile section of Golf Road, improving access to three Pace fixed routes that operate on the corridor (#209, #606, and #757). Several major employers are located on this corridor and it has also been chosen by Pace as a potential Arterial Rapid Transit (ART) route.

Description
The RTA chose Blue Island as part of the 2013 Community Planning Program to work with ULI to assemble a developer discussion panel to provide input, guidance and advice to the City as they work to attract TOD investment on a City-owned parcel adjacent to the 119th Street Metra station.
Current Activities
This panel convened in August 2013 and a summary of this discussion can be found in the Study Documents. In March 2015 the City issued a RFQ seeking a redevelopment partner for approximately 7.5 acres at the southeast corner of 119th Street and Vincennes Road. The site will serve as a gateway to Blue Island and create a commercial or mixed-use node, as identified in the Comprehensive Plan and the City is still working with potential developers to explore public and private funding sources to help finance a development.

Description

This project developed land use recommendations to support the CTA's planned bus rapid transit (BRT) service along the Western / Ashland corridors. The work led to the identification of land use policy changes that support transit-oriented development as well as design standards to improve the experience around potential station sites, with a focus on providing pedestrian access and increasing ridership.

Description
The project assigned development typologies to all 77 Metra stations within the City of Chicago. These typologies provide a guide for elected officials and developers to identify opportunities for appropriate TOD development in the station areas, maximize access to transit, build ridership and support the surrounding community. This plan complements the Transit Friendly Development Guide completed by the City and the CTA in 2009, which created typologies for all CTA rail stations.

Description
Taxicab companies that purchase purpose-built wheelchair accessible taxi vehicles or convert standard vehicles to wheelchair accessible vehicles will be reimbursed for the costs associated with accessible vehicle elements. It is estimated that this project may contribute 133 accessible cabs to the taxi cab fleet now serving Chicago.
Current Activities
The City of Chicago executed the grant agreement on this project with the Federal Transit Administration on April 30, 2013. The City incorporated the project into the City budget in November. The City is working with the taxi companies to refine the process for how taxi companies may participate in the project.
